Mummy Makeover: Restoring Confidence After Motherhood

Reclaim your silhouette with a bespoke combination of procedures designed for post-pregnancy restoration.

The Problem

Motherhood is a transformative journey, but it often leaves lasting changes on a woman's body that diet and exercise alone cannot address. Many women find that after having children, their "six-pack" muscles (rectus abdominis) have weakened or separated—a condition known as diastasis recti. This means that even with significant weight loss, the tummy may never return to its pre-pregnancy flatness.

Beyond the abdomen, the breasts often lose volume or begin to sag after breastfeeding. I understand how much "brain space" this can occupy, and I have deep empathy for those navigating these physical shifts.

The Solution: What is a Mummy Makeover?

A Mummy Makeover is a bespoke combination of procedures designed to address the specific areas affected by pregnancy and aging in one single surgical journey. It typically includes an Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) to repair muscles, paired with breast surgery and often Liposuction.

How the Procedure is Performed

A Mummy Makeover is performed under general anaesthetic and usually involves two or three main components:

1. The Abdomen (Tummy Tuck)

I make an incision from hip to hip, positioned low below the bikini line. I remove excess skin and fat and tighten the underlying muscles. Using modern quilting suture techniques, I often avoid the need for surgical drains.

2. The Breasts

Depending on your goals, this may involve a breast lift (mastopexy) to address sagging, breast augmentation to restore lost volume, or a combination of both.

3. Contouring (Lipoabdominoplasty)

For many patients, I perform Lipoabdominoplasty. This allows us to sculpt the waistline for a more refined silhouette while removing excess skin.

Downtime and Recovery

  • Week 1: Focus strictly on healing at home with support.
  • Week 2: Light tasks and driving are usually permitted.
  • Week 4: Lifting small children is usually appropriate.
  • Week 6: Return to the gym and heavy lifting.
